Social Media Convo (Started on Linked In)
We wanted to bring this conversation to our blog readers. Like most business owners, I had to SEE results to really believe Twitter could be of value. And I have…
Dave Dias Asks: What do you think of TWITTER? I just opened an account to see how it might be helpful in marketing efforts.
John Garrett Responds: Dave – I’ve become a believer. For me, it’s all about results and I’ve had some really great things come from Twitter usage and I’m only in my first month of using it.
Here are some cool things to use it for. . . release all blog updates you post for you company via a tweet. Search for “CEO’s on Twitter.” You will find a list of very affluent business people on Twitter that you normally wouldn’t have access to.
Here http://tweetstats.com you can look at your tweet stats… its use full after a bit of time to see where you are tweeting and track what is coming from it.
Also, check out http://twitter.grader.com to see your tweet grade.
Now, when you get to that last link, go to the right hand side and you will see a link that says, “Twitter Elite.” Click “By Location.” Then type in your city and state. You will see the top Twitter users there and you can add them. They are typically key people on Twitter in your area, though there are some people who simply have too much time on their hands.
Social media is about creativity.
Our consulting firm customizes CRM’s. So, what we did was build a section into our CRM that tracks all social media outlets for our contacts. I then went, built a facebook page, ran a report on all my contacts who are on facebook and mass mailed them invites.
We are working on hash (#) capabilities for Twitter. Hash is a way of tweeting about a certain topic and having others be able to search for it, like searching CRM on Google would produce a serious of links, searching hash’s for a certain topic would bring up a list of tweets on the subject.
We are getting ready to establish “flat leadership” and “CRM” hashes that will help us become resource for people looking for those subjects.
Be creative, do some research and really let your imagination go with it.
Last thing…. we have nearly replaced cold calling in our firm with social media in one way or another. Start by taking out a massive piece of paper and mapping out your personal network, your business network and your business’s network. Then add your “social media” network to the mix.
The key is to link all of those networks together for a powerful and fast paced way to spread information.
Hope this helps….
Dave Dias: Thanks sooooooooo much……!!!!! Great insights…!!!!!

Concerning hash tags. Go to hashtags.org to see what tags have the highest usages and charts that display trends.
An important note: You must follow @hashtags to participate in the hash tags project.
I would also recommend using a tool like TweetDeck. It makes it very easy to send updates and organize all the people you’re following. I love it.
