Taxes over Marketing?!?!
According to research conducted by Kelton Research in April 2008, “73% of small business owners say they are so intimidated by search marketing that they would rather do their taxes than create a search marketing plan.”
Does anyone else find this shocking? More and more people are using the internet for everything from looking up recipes to travel, to checking out a new book or new band. If you don’t have a website, you need one. If you aren’t optimizing your presence on the web with the website, you need to start.
A few interesting facts about how small business owners feel about Search Engine Marketing:
- 81% percent question whether paid search marketing is the best use of their marketing budgets.
- 21% percent think it would be too time-consuming.
HOWEVER, those who have used search marketing report:
- 72% reported an increase in sales inquiries
- 68% say they consider their paid search marketing efforts successful
Is the real problem that it is perceived as not to work or that some business owners are either too busy or too afraid to invest in giving it a try? It is imperative to remember that anyone can throw a website up. There are a variety of tools and do-it-yourself programs that make it super easy…but then what? Does it look good? Is it informative and user-friendly? How are you going to use it to increase traffic, prospects and ultimately revenue?
With so many questions, there is no better time than right now to get it together.
